Permanently Dissolve Fat Cells in Targeted Areas

KYBELLA®

Injectable Treatment for Areas of Fat

DOCS is now offering Kybella, deoxycholic acid. This is the first injectable drug that has been FDA approved to treat submental fullness, often referred to as a “double chin.” This groundbreaking product is a safe and effective option for reducing, contouring, and improving the appearance of the double chin.

According to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, 7 out of 10 people — women and men alike — are bothered by submental fullness, or the puffy fat that collects under the chin. Submental fullness associated with subcutaneous fat can detract from an otherwise balanced and harmonious facial appearance – leading to an older and heavier look.

Though the chin and neck are frequently overlooked by patients hoping to improve their appearance, these features function as an important frame for the face, and a change there can dramatically improve the way you look. The presence of submental fat, whether due to genetics, diet, aging, or some combination of the three, can add the impression of both years and pounds to a person’s face.

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella, an injectable form of non-animal deoxycholic acid, is a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment option to reduce, contour, and improve the appearance of submental fullness. Deoxycholate is a molecule that occurs naturally in the body and helps in the process of breaking down fat. When it is injected into the submental fat under the chin it dissolves excess unwanted fat.

After a consultation to discuss candidacy, side effects, and post care instruction, the double chin region is numbed using topical anesthesia and then marked with a temporary injection grid. Kybella is then injected with a tiny needle into the fat in the region. As the medication comes into contact with the fat cells it permanently destroys the cells containing the fat, freeing it to be naturally eliminated from the body.

Following Kybella® injections, temporary swelling and tenderness in the treatment area is expected, but typically resolves within a few days. There may also be temporary numbness at the injection site, which resolves within a few weeks. The use of ice post treatment reduces these mild effects.

To achieve optimal improvement, multiple treatments sessions spaced 6-8 weeks apart are required. While most patients obtain a desired reduction within 2-3 treatments, more may be required depending on the initial degree of submental fullness. After an ideal look is achieved, subsequent treatments are typically not necessary, since Kybella® actually permanently destroys the unwanted fat in the region.
